Whites Apologized; Now It's Your Turn
July 30, 2008

The following rant is based on this news story:
House Issues Formal Apology For Slavery
Unprecedented Resolution Apologizes For Slavery, Jim Crow
WASHINGTON, July 29, 2008

(AP) The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The resolution, passed by voice vote, was the work of Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen, the only white lawmaker to represent a majority black district. Cohen faces a formidable black challenger in a primary face-off next week.

Congress has issued apologies before - to Japanese-Americans for their internment during World War II and to native Hawaiians for the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom in 1893. In 2005, the Senate apologized for failing to pass anti-lynching laws.

Five states have issued apologies for slavery, but past proposals in Congress have stalled, partly over concerns that an apology would lead to demands for reparations - payment for damages.

The Cohen resolution does not mention reparations. It does commit the House to rectifying "the lingering consequences of the misdeeds committed against African-Americans under slavery and Jim Crow."

It says that Africans forced into slavery "were brutalized, humiliated, dehumanized and subjected to the indignity of being stripped of their names and heritage" and that black Americans today continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow laws that fostered discrimination and segregation.

The House "apologizes to African-Americans on behalf of the people of the United States, for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow."

"Slavery and Jim Crow are stains upon what is the greatest nation on the face of the earth," Cohen said. Part of forming a more perfect union, he said, "is such a resolution as we have before us today where we face up to our mistakes and apologize as anyone should apologize for things that were done in the past that were wrong."

Cohen became the first white to represent the 60 percent black district in Memphis in more than three decades when he captured a 2006 primary where a dozen black candidates split the vote. He has sought to reach out to his black constituents, and early in his term showed interest in joining the Congressional Black Caucus until learning that was against caucus rules.

Another of his first acts as a freshman congressman in early 2007 was to introduce the slavery apology resolution. His office said that the House resolution was brought to the floor only after learning that the Senate would be unable to join in a joint resolution.

More than a dozen of the 42 Congressional Black Caucus members in the House were original co-sponsors of the measure. The caucus has not endorsed either Cohen or his chief rival, attorney Nikki Tinker, in the Memphis primary, although Cohen is backed by several senior members, including Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., and Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, D-N.Y. Tinker is the former campaign manager of Harold Ford, Jr., who held Cohen's seat until he stepped down in an unsuccessful run for the Senate in 2006.

Right off the bat, let me just say that I thnk this is great. As was stated in the article, any individual or government should at all times be ready and willing to recognize their mistakes, accept responsibility for them and apologize. It's not brain surgery, after all; you fuck up, you apologize for fucking up. It can easily be said that the kidnapping of black people from Africa and their enslavement here in the U.S. is probably the single biggest fuck up in our history.

You probably started reading that article and thought I was about to launch into a tirade about how fucking stupid it is. No, not at all. I think that the living descendants of slaves and victims of Jim Crow laws absolutely deserve an apology from our government. Especially deserving are the older black men and women who actually lived through that discrimination. I'm glad our government has issued such an apology. It was long overdue.

Thankfully, as I've mentioned before, I'm free from the great "white guilt" of my ancestors. I'm decended from American Indians and Quakers. Indians suffered even greater atrocities and Quakers were advocating equal rights centuries before anybody else. So, sorry guys, but my great-great-great-great grandfather didn't rape your great-great-great-great grandmother and I have nothing to feel guilty about (or apologize for) in regards to my own heritage. So please, save your stupid e-mails where you try to lay a guilt trip on me for having the audacity to be white and speak about racial issues. I have no guilt, so shove it.

All of this is incidental, however, to the real topic of today's rant. See, for years now we've had black activists screaming their fucking heads off about how whites should feel guilty for the crimes of our ancestors. To an extent, I agree. However, what I'm most curious about is whether or not any of these activists have ever entertained the notion of apoligizing to the Jews?

What? Apologize to the Jews? What the fuck for? Let's look back in our history books, shall we? Back much further than the white enslavement of blacks. WAY the fuck back to about 6,000 years ago. Contrary to what many white supremecists would have you believe about blacks, back during that era, there was this small African country that was actually one of the most advanced civilizations on Earth. So advanced was this African nation, in fact, that even today we're still baffled about some of the shit they did. Their architectural technology, most of all.

In case you're really fucking slow or something, the country I'm talking about is Egypt. We don't often think of Egypt as "Africa" because most people (even a lot of black people) have this stereotypical view of ancient Africa as being all tribal and hunting lions with spears and shit like that. Nevertheless, it must be stated loudly and clearly that Egypt is an AFRICAN nation and unlike the Egypt of today, the people of ancient Egypt were black; and I mean black. Not fucking brown like most "black" people today. No, the ancient Egyptians were real African black people.

That's something every black man should be proud of. Your ancestors weren't just slaves! No, no, way before that, your ancestors were the fucking top dogs on Earth! As far as that part of the world was concerned, blacks ruled every goddamn thing. Contrary to the stereotype, it was the whites of that time period who were running around throwing spears at shit and freezing their asses off in some broke-ass mud huts somewhere. Ancient Egypt - the great black civilization - had it all.

Including slaves.

WAIT, WHAT?! That's right, boys and girls! Thousands of years before the white man ever had the notion of enslaving any dark-skinned people, it was the blacks who enslaved light-skinned people! Oh yes, in one of the earliest advanced civilizations on the planet there were thousands of black men cracking the whip over the backs of millions of Hebrew people.

Hell, for all intents and purposes, I think it can pretty safely be said that black people invented slavery as we now know it!

So while Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are blustering on about the white man's guilt and all the reparations he owes, I'd like to hear from them about the black man's guilt and just exactly WHEN are the blacks of the world going to pay some motherfucking reparations to the Jews?!

Oh-ho! Suddenly perhaps paying for the sins of the father doesn't sound like such a good idea, eh? After all, the amount of time that's passed doesn't seem to make any difference to black leaders in our society, why should it make any difference to the Jewish leaders? I say, all of you blacks owe every fucking Jewish man, woman and child an apology for the centuries of brutal slavery and oppresion that your people put them through!

Congress was dead-on with their apology. Slavery is a horrid institution and I'm glad it's been gone for a very long time here in America. It truly is a wonderful thing for the U.S. government to finally acknowledge its wrongdoing in the past and apologize for it. Now if only we could get the inventors of slavery to do the same! How about it guys? I know some Jewish people who are waiting for their fucking apology! Get to it, massa!
