My best friend since childhood got married recently. I was, of course, invited to attend. Not just invited really but asked to be the Best Man. Makes sense after all since me and him were best friends since we were still wetting the bed.
Like a month before the wedding we made plans and definately decided that I would be the best man. I never heard anything else about it. On the day of the wedding, I get all dressed up and show up at his grandmother's house where the wedding is going on. I was really overdressed compared to everybody there. It was a pretty casual ceremony.
When I found my best friend, he asked me too why I was dressed up so nice in a suit and everything and I'm like "Umm, I'm the best man..." So NOW he decides to tell me that "Oh well, we never heard anything from you for like a month so I just thought you weren't going to do it and I made my brother the best man."
WHAT THE FUCK????????????
Was that fucked up or am I just over reacting? I felt like such a fool walking in that place thinking I was the best man and then he tells me I'm NOT. I blew it off like it was no big deal but that fucking hurt. What should I do?
The Worst Man
You did the right thing by holding your tongue at the time. No need to ruin his "special day" over your hurt feelings. But yes, that was DEFINATELY a shitty thing to do. They never heard from you? It wasn't YOUR FUCKING JOB to keep in touch with THEM! You were asked to be the best man, so it was the groom's job to keep you up-to-date on all the shit you needed to do or whatever. It's not your place to call them every fucking day going "Whaddo I need to do now?" Fuck that shit!
The "big day" is over now though. Let your friend have it. He needs to know that that was a really pissy way to treat your supposed "best friend." If you don't get it out of your system, it's just gonna fester and rot inside of you until you can't stand that motherfucker anymore. So, if you value your friendship with this guy (dunno why you would, after this slap in the fucking face), let him have it with both barrels!
